The Del Ward Band

Del has been writing songs on and off for several years.  He performed some of these while the front man for another local band, Not Dead Yet.  In the summer of 2013, his doctor-ordered voice rest sparked an explosion of new songwriting.  By Fall Del was ready to be performing again, and this time with a wealth of his own material.  He asked Thomas Teapole and David Shore to help him start a band to do this.

Thomas has played guitar with Del since they met in high school.  David and Del played together in the same band for the two years prior.  David introduced Art, his friend from Pittsburg, to the band shortly after rehearsals began.  The Del Ward Band is, among other things, an inter-generational band.  Art and David are both seasoned musicians.  They've played in a number of local bands, as well as with some of this country's best musicians.  Del and Thomas bring a blast of youthful energy and rebellion that comes from playing guitars together in the stairwell at school for hours on end, when they probably should have been finishing up the history paper that was due last week.

The band performs all original material.  Del writes almost all of that, though arrangements and orchestration are a collaborative effort.  "Sometimes, when the band gets done with it, I can barely recognize my song, but it's always better."

When he was six, Del stole his parents’ iPod and listened to everything on it (5 days and 14 hours’ worth).  He hasn't been quite the same since.  Major Influences in Dels musical life include Jim Morrison, Ella Fitzgerald, Robert Plant, JS Bach, B.B King, Pearl Jam, Lucius Wilson, City and Colour, Miles Davis, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, The Temper Trap, Gary Moore, Herbie Hancock, Radiohead, James Brown, Chris Cornell, Dave Brubeck, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Philip Glass, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, My Morning Jacket, David Byrne, Bonobo, and Little People.

Del Ward grew up in Hillsborough, NC. He has been writing music and performing locally since he was 15. In the fall of 2013 Del created the Del Ward Band, performing his original music at venues throughout the Triangle and beyond. He also co-produced Hazelene, the band’s debut CD, in the spring of 2014.

Art grew up in and around Pittsburgh, PA playing in dance bands. He has played Classical, Jazz, Rock, even a few Polkas; and shared the bill with Bo Diddly, Willie Dixon, and Muddy Waters, among others
